Marble Falls was the highest finishing Highland Lakes team with 36 points for third place followed by Burnet with 26 points and Llano with 22 points. Lorena won the challenge, and McGregor finished second. A tiebreaker was used to determine first and second. “It went well,” said Burnet offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Tyler McIntosh, who served as the event director. “Everybody got out and competed well. Navy getting a ‘superstar’ in Marble Falls High’s Castro

Four years ago, few could imagine that Marble Falls High School’s Javier Castro, Jr. would be entering the Navy. But the senior is doing just that after impressing Navy personnel in tests, including the U.S. Military Fitness Test, which is part of the enlistment process. That’s a far cry from where he started when, as a freshman who showed up for the first day of cross country head coach Chris Schrader’s practice, Castro was the only boy who didn’t remove his shirt in front of his male teammates. “He weighed…

Valdez exchanging Marble Falls High purple for Concordia purple

Marble Falls High School senior runner Sam Valdez sat at a table surrounded by four years of hard work and accomplishments, waiting for his name to be called to sign his National Letter of Intent. With family members in the double digits in attendance, Valdez couldn’t help but think of three people who were there in spirit — grandfathers Roy Atkinson and Gilbert Valdez and a great-grandmother. “Their passing was the biggest push for me to do better,” he said. Valdez is attending Concordia University to be a cross country…

So when Ashbaugh signed her National Letter of Intent to swim for Illinois College during a ceremony at the high school May 19, the…

Marble Falls Middle School soccer finishes undefeated season

The Marble Falls Middle School boys soccer team ended its season with an 8-0 rout of Liberty Hill Santa Rita May 17 to go unbeaten during the 2022 season for a 6-0 record. The Mustangs were dominant in their contests where they gave up only two goals all season while averaging more than two a match. “Both are obviously very notable,” coach Aaron Jimenez said. “But to be able to produce goals at that age is impressive.” About 35 seventh- and eighth-graders came out for middle school soccer. The undefeated…

Voluntary lifting sessions paying off for the Marble Falls Stangs

The Marble Falls High School football players aren’t basking in the Texas sun. Instead, they are putting in the work in the weight room and baking on the artificial turf at Mustang Stadium during competition drills days before the 2021-22 academic year ends. The Mustangs are doing more than embracing preparation in the offseason; they’re showing up in herds with the mindset that no individual will be outworked by anyone. And that has their coaches enthusiastic. That is especially apparent in the number who are showing up before and after…
