Burnet CISD board president outlines timeline for superintendent, athletic director, football hires

The Burnet Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees is gearing up for what may be a busier spring than it has ever had before. That’s because three individuals will be occupying offices they did not house during the fall semester: superintendent, director of athletics and school safety, and football head coach. Superintendent Keith McBurnett and athletic and school safety director Kurt Jones announced retirements, while football head coach Bryan Wood announced his resignation. The Burnet High School girls basketball team went 2-2 at the Leander Glenn tournament Dec. 28-29. After 23 years of service to Burnet Consolidated Independent School District, athletic director Kurt Jones said he is retiring from public education at the end of the 2023-24 school year. “It’s 100 percent my decision,” he said. “My wife and family and I have been talking about it for a little while. The Burnet High School girls basketball team keeps adding to its impressive list of wins. The Lady Dawgs (15-5) defeated Brownwood 42-27 Dec. 11 on the heels of beating Sulphur Springs 33-18, Palestine 60-38, Gladewater 50-23 and Rusk 50-35 all at the Great East Texas Shootout tournament Dec. 7-9. The lone loss at the event was to Edgewood 40-35.
