Burnet boys soccer beats Travis in district opener

The Burnet High School boys soccer team beat Austin Travis 1-0 in the District 25-4A opener Jan. 14. The lone goal was scored by Genesis Ceron on a deflection on the Bulldogs’ first free kick of the night. Head coach Benjamin Boorman indicated the Bulldogs had numerous opportunities to add more. “We had so many chances,” he said.   He pointed out that Hector Arredondo and Marco Campos “controlled the midfield and fed Miguel Valdez and Genesis Ceron into Travis’ territory all night.”  Boorman commended Burnet’s defense, which was exceptional.…

Burnet girls basketball outlasts Jarrell

The Burnet High School girls basketball team defeated Jarrell 46-43 Jan. 14. The victory puts the Lady Dawgs (12-14, 3-1) in a three-way tie for first in District 24-4A with Salado (16-11, 3-1) and the Lady Cougars (22-6, 3-1). Burnet boys soccer competes through freezing temperatures at tourney

The Burnet High School boys soccer team went 1-2 at the Manor tournament last weekend. The Bulldogs beat Columbus 2-0 thanks to goals from Miguel Valdez and Ricardo Flores. The Burnet High School girls basketball team crushed Taylor 52-37 Jan. 10 in District 24-4A play. The Lady Dawgs (11-14, 2-1) established their dominance in the first period by dropping 19 points and keeping the Lady Ducks to 6 points. The Burnet High School powerlifting teams took top honors from its own meet Jan. 11. The Lady Dawgs won the girls division, while the Bulldogs finished as the runners-up in the boys division.
