The Faith Academy of Marble Falls baseball team’s season ended in a 16-5 loss to Halletsville Sacred Heart in the Class 2A playoffs May 5. The loss, however, doesn’t take away from an impressive season where the Flames (8-3, 6-0) went undefeated in district play en route to winning the title. “They never gave up,” head coach Zakk Revelle said. “They were always encouraging each other. The summary of our season starts with the seniors and what they wanted to do, which was to win a district championship. And then…

Number 42 continues to be Number 1

By Art Dlugach   He played first base—an appropriate position—because 75 years ago, April 15, 1947, Jackie Robinson became the first African American to play in the major leagues. Robinson was signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers, with team president Branch Rickey winning most of the praise for this historic moment occurring at Ebbets Field. Probably too many of us—I was almost four years old at the time—think Robinson was heading for glory and good times. Glory, yes, as he would be named the 1947 MLB Rookie of the Year and his…

Untimely error allows the Broncos to beat the Bulldogs

In just about every statistic, the Burnet High School baseball team beat Lake Belton April 26. But the only statistic the Bulldogs didn’t win were the number of runs where the District 19-4A champion Broncos (12-2) scored two unearned in the second and then hung on for a 2-0 victory. “We played really well,” Burnet head coach Russell Houston said. “It was good to see we can play with those guys and keep it close. It was frustrating we didn’t execute when we had the opportunities. We need to do…

They took it head-on. It was the most complete team effort we’ve had all season.” Every Flame had at least one hit, and Revelle noted every single one was needed to…
