The Burnet and Marble Falls high school track teams sent relays to compete at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays March 31 and April 1.

Marble Falls head coach Austin Silva summed up the experience for runners and coaches.

“I was just really pleased with how poised all of our athletes were given the magnitude and size of Texas Relays,” he said. “Also I’m so glad our kids got a chance to experience a meet like that. Seeing the excitement on their faces leading up to their events and listening to them explain the experience afterwards was so awesome.”

The Marble Falls boys 1,600-meter relay team of Gunnar Deeds, Nick Dahl, Dax Murphy and Zach Woody clocked 3 minutes and 31.81 to finish 37th overall March 31.

“The boys did very well with a personal record,” Silva said.

The Burnet girls 1,600-meter relay team of Addison Houston, Wrigley Mulhollan, Camryn Courtney and Asah Roy ran a 4:11.22 to finish 42nd March 31.

“Our coaching staff is incredibly proud of these girls,” Burnet girls track head coach Crystal Shipley said. “They have improved every week and push through some tough workouts at 6 a.m. With a new best (time), they are ready to attack this last week before district. This is a young group and you will see a lot more of them in the years to come.”

Marble Falls returned April 1 with its boys and girls 400-meter relay teams.

The Lady Mustang team of Katherine McCary, Ava Carter, Kamri Langley and Nashla Crott finished 49th in 52.63 seconds.

The Mustang team of Cameron Graham, Adrian Martinez, Jaime Castillo and Kristian Dubose ran a 45.33 seconds for 49th place.

“(These) boys and girls (relays) did not get the times they were looking for, but I was very impressed with their exchanges given the stage they were on,” Silva said. “It seemed like each heat had at least two teams with poor hand-offs, but ours were great.”

While the two schools sent relays to Austin, Burnet competed at the Warrior Invitational at Comal Pieper March 30.

No group had a better day than the middle-distance runners.

Victor Aviles led the way by earning the gold gold in the 1,600 meters and double silver in the 800 and 3,200 meter.

Aviles contributed 26 points to the overall total.

Teammate Hudson Bennett came in first in the 3,200 meters.

“He continues to make his way back to full strength,” head coach Ben Speer said.

Isaias Zarate set new personal records by finishing fourth in the 3,200 meters and fifth in the 1,600 meters.

Grant Jones placed fourth in the 200 meters and anchored the 800-meter relay to third. The relay also included Khris Kassner, Colton Sanford and Garner Krause.

Sanford set a new personal record in the 200 meters fifth.

The junior varsity 800-meter relay team of Aden Sanchez, Brody Danson, Matthew Williams and Demetrius Taliaferro earned a silver medal.

The same runners earned a bronze in the 400-meter relay.

The Lady Dawgs also performed well and saw some set new personal bests.

Top of the list was Shaelyn Poe who was fourth in the 3,200 meters and fifth in the 1,600 meters.

Zaria Solis also set a new personal record in the 200 meters.

Burnet and Marble Falls will compete at the Badger Relays Wednesday, April 5.
