The Burnet High School volleyball team ended the first round of District 24-A play Oct. 7 with a five-set come-from-behind win at Jarrell 25-16, 23-25, 22-25, 25-19, 15-10.

The Lady Dawgs (20-11, 5-0) showed their determination in fighting back from a 1-2 deficit to take the final two sets for the victory.

“Jarrell did a good job taking our momentum in sets two and three and caused unexpected plays,” head coach Crystal Shipley said. “Our girls pushed back to win a nail biter in sets four and five.”

Meanwhile the subvarsities had no issues. Both the freshmen and junior varsity won in straight sets.

“We are so proud of all of our girls for such a strong finish to the first round of district play,” the coach said.

Burnet begins the second round by hosting Lago Vista Tuesday, Oct. 11, at The Doghouse, 1000 The Green Mile. It’s the annual Pink Out night where teams wear pink for breast cancer awareness. Subvarsities play at 5 p.m. and the varsity follows at 6 p.m.
