The Faith Academy of Marble Falls boys basketball team lost to Huntsville Alpha Omega 68-51 Feb. 21 in a regional final of the Class 3A playoffs of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools.
The Flames’ season ends with another 20-win season and their sixth district championship in eight years under the direction of head coach Zakk Revelle.
“We didn’t play our best offensive game,” he said. “They played a great offensive game. In a one-and-done playoff system, that’s part of it. The most prominent thing is God gives us gifts, gifts that are powerful. We have to find a way to utilize this gift we’ve been given.”
Faith, which had several of its players ill, trailed from the start. They were down 10 points after the first quarter, 11 at the half, and 17 at the end of third period.
The Flames tied the contest in the fourth quarter, but that’s as close as they got.
“There’s always a signature run, something that makes them call a timeout,” Revelle said. “We could not get on that run. Major credit to (head coach Wes) Jones at Alpha Omega. They had a great game plan and did a great job. He’s a great coach and had his team ready.”
All-state sophomore guard Will Slyker led the Flames with 31 points.
The program loses only senior Asher Apel.
“We’re eternally grateful to Asher and all he did,” the coach said. “He’s the epitome of love each other (the program’s slogan). We’re bringing back 80 percent of our starters and all of our (reserves). Hopefully, we can skip the flu next season. We told them this is a painful gift, and we need to learn from it.”
