The Marble Falls High School girls soccer team stomped Gatesville 5-0 Jan. 28 for the second-most goals scored in a single match this season.
“We definitely dominated as the score shows,” head coach Marisa Miller said. “It was good to see. We were able to find the net multiple times.”
Juniors Dulce Macias Garcia and Avrie Wallace each scored 2 goals, while junior Ruby Carrillo had one. Junior Mia Vargas, freshman Taylor Brydon and Macias Garcia each had an assist.
The Lady Mustangs (6-4-1) have put in extra time of the offensive side as they’re learning Miller’s playbook. She is in her first year at the helm. As the athletes have been practicing and playing together, they’re learning and remembering each other’s tendencies.
The multiple goals against Gatesville illustrates all of that, Miller said.
“I do think it has a lot to do with team chemistry,” she said. “We’re starting to connect as a team.”
Meanwhile, Marble Falls added another shutout, its third in the last four matches. Miller noted the Lady Mustangs have yielded goals because they’ve lost focus for a couple of seconds. Playing stingy defense has to be a core part of the team, she added, because so many matches are decided by a single goal.
“I think that’s big for us,” the coach said. “That was huge.”
Marble Falls travels to Little River Academy to play at 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31.
