The Marble Falls High School girls basketball team lost to Lampasas 39-38 in double overtime Jan. 24 on the heels of losing to Burnet 49-24 Jan. 22 all in District 24-4A play.

Head coach Adley Canales commended his players for their efforts against the Lady Badgers.

“They played extremely well,” he said. “I thought it was the most complete game we’ve played all year. Only one team can win. It wasn’t our night.”

The Lady Badgers hit a free throw for a 39-38 lead. With 6.8 seconds left, the Lady Mustangs called a timeout to set up a play.

But the shot was missed.

“We executed the play, got a look,” Canales said.

The Lady Mustangs had one starter who fouled out in the first overtime and a reserve who fouled out in the second overtime.

But this contest came down to the same woe.

“If we had to put it on one thing, we didn’t convert on more shots,” Canales said. “We out rebounded them. We didn’t score enough.”

Defensively, the Lady Mustangs want to hold opponents to no more than 40 points a contest.

“We gave up 40 points through two overtimes,” Canales said.

He pointed out that senior forward Kylie Roberts and junior center Leslie Reynoso continue to play at a high level.

“Kylie and Leslie had great games,” he said.

Marble Falls welcomes Salado with the subvarsities playing at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28.
