The Marble Falls High School girls basketball team lost to Lago Vista 46-20 Nov. 9.
The Lady Vikings took a 16-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Marble Falls head coach Adley Canales credited Lago Vista’s defense.
“Their pressure and zone got to us,” he said. “They trapped as soon as the ball was in. We did what they wanted us to do. We made a bunch of unforced turnovers. They shot the ball really well.”
Despite the score, Canales noted his players’ efforts never wavered.
“We competed the whole time,” he said. “We didn’t quit. We made adjustments at halftime. We were in a massive hole after the first quarter.”
Lago Vista out rebounded Marble Falls 24-23 and had 13 assists to the Lady Mustangs’ 4. The Lady Vikings shot 37 percent from the floor and 30 percent from the 3-point line, while Marble Falls had a field goal percentage of 27 percent and 17 percent from the 3-point line.
Freshman Mikaela Valdez led with 6 points followed by senior Kenadie Cotton, junior Rayleigh Crim and freshman Adalynn Wood with 3 apiece, senior Kylie Roberts and sophomore Kenley Virdell each had 2, and Leslie Reynoso finished with a point and nine rebounds. Roberts had five steals and grabbed three rebounds.
Canales said the game revealed where his team must get better especially since District 24-4A is expected to be more competitive than the last two years.
“It showed us things that we need to work on and what we need to learn,” he said.
Marble Falls travels to play at Bastrop High Tuesday, Nov. 12, with the subvarsities playing at 5:15 p.m. and the varsity at 6:45 p.m.
