Burnet coach Redman joins Marble Falls HS

Nathan Redman has joined the Marble Falls High School faculty as a world geography teacher and boys basketball and assistant tennis coach.

Redman spent the last four years as the Burnet High School tennis head coach.

Marble Falls tennis head coach Samuel Whitley credited athletic director Keri Timmerman, principal Patrick Hinson and senior Marble Falls Independent School District officials for the hire.

“Our central office, our athletic director and our high school principal were able to get him to come,” Whitley said. “Marble Falls is going to be blessed.”

Last season, the Burnet girls doubles team of Tatum Salinas and Aly Van Zandt finished as the Class 4A state runner-up in its second consecutive appearance there.

That experience and the knowledge of how to lead a program made Redman great hire, assistant athletic director and boys basketball head coach John Berkman said.

“Obviously, hiring a head coach to come in and be a part of our staff as an assistant is going to be excellent,” he said. “He has knowledge and dealt with situations (including) player development are all going to be things he brings to the table, which is going to be great. It’s going to add value to the program.”

Berkman said the opening on his staff was tied to the assistant tennis coach spot.

“We were looking for the best fit in roles,” he said. “We felt like coach Redman was a great fit across the board, and it helped tennis for sure. He’s going to be a great addition. He brings a head coach’s mentality into an assistant’s role.”

Though Redman and Whitley worked for different school districts, they’re aligned in philosophy, how they coach and how they communicate with their players, other staff members and fans. Whitley pointed out the two worked together already.

“Burnet always did a tournament, and we helped,” Whitley said. “We’ve worked together the past two years.”

He noted that “every coach has a niche,” and Redman’s will benefit the Marble Falls program.

“He does a great job of teaching, scouting the opponent and figuring out the way to defeat that person,” Whitley said. “Now we’re going to be able to work on getting the kids better.”
