Marble Falls track gets ready for district meet with great showing at Lampasas
The Marble Falls High School track and field teams showed they are ready for what’s coming with solid performances at the Johnny Lam Jones Relays hosted by Lampasas March 28.
Senior Dax Murphy earned a silver medal in the 400 meters.
“We transitioned Dax to the open 400 because we felt that would give him the best change to succeed, and he has handled it well,” head coach Austin Silva said. “Two second-place finishes in two weeks and he looks good heading into district. Hopefully he can keep it up and advance.”
Senior Nick Dahl and junior Tyler Hamblin brought home two medals each from the 800 and 1,600 meters.
“We wanted to give Tyler a little change of pace before district because he’s been running 3,200 and 1,600 all year, so we gave him the 800 and(he) did well,” Silva said. “Also very encouraging to see Nick run under 2 minutes again (in the 800 meters). Excited to watch these two compete this week.”
The Lady Mustangs took gold in the 800-meter relay and silver in the 400-meter relay.
“Our girls relays are starting to get more comfortable with one another and their exchanges,” Silva said. “We’ve had to move them around a couple times this year, but I think we finally have our four and in the order we want them in that will give us the best chance of advancing past district.”
Freshman Madison Cuplin ran on the relays and took triple gold in the 100 meters, the long jump and triple jump.
“I think the thing that impresses me the most about Maddie is she never lets the moment get to her,” the coach said. “She is always very calm and collected. I think this will really help her at the district meet and beyond when the competition will be at its best.”
Nashla Crott took bronze in the 200 meters.
“Nashla has been battling an injury for quite sometime now and has started to be more intentional about her recovery resulting in a great finish,” Silva said. “Nashla is an instrumental part of what we do on the girls side so keeping herself healthy going into district is her top priority.”
Junior Kylie Roberts earned silver medals in the discus and shot put.
“We are confident that Kylie will be just fine heading into district,” Silva said. “She has a crazy schedule being a four-sport athlete so managing that has been challenging at times, but she knows how important this meet is coming up. She will be fine.”
Marble Falls will compete in the District 24-4A meet Tuesday and Wednesday, April 2-3, at Lago Vista High School.
