The Faith Academy of Marble Falls boys basketball program celebrated its fifth consecutive district title by having its seven-player rotation named to the All-District 3-3A teams.
The Flames are members of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools.
Freshman guard Will Slyker was unanimously named the district’s Most Valuable Player and first team all-district.
“Major credit to Will because he worked so hard at everything he does,” Faith head coach Zakk Revelle said. “He does the things coaches say to do. He’s in the weight room, he’s in the gym, he takes care of his grades. It’s a big reason why.”
Revelle said once the coaches began talking, the conversation was short.
“It’s Will, there’s no one else. Let’s move on,” he recalled hearing. “I didn’t have to put his name up. There wasn’t a ton of talk. He’s a high IQ player and above and away the best player.”
Coaches also created an all-defensive team, which made its members first team all-district players. Faith junior guard Asher Apel and sophomore center Judah Phillips are on the all-defensive team.
“Anything to make it to where our players are being talked about for how hard they work is a good thing,” Revelle said.
Named second team all-district are senior guards Gabe Lopez and Cross Sanchez and sophomore guard Jase Marshall.
Freshman Seattle Hampton was named honorable mention.
“Seattle played well in our playoff game,” Revelle said. “It says a lot about the kids and the work they put in. You see the hard work they put in, the time and effort. It’s nice when others see that.”
Apel also was named academic all-state.
Revelle said he was happy to see his players receive the acknowledgement he sees daily.
“It’s nice for the high school kids,” he said. “They’re not doing this as part of a scholarship. They do it because they love the sport and love each other. Overall it was nice for those guys to be rewarded, and it’s not from me and it’s not from their parents. To hear it from other coaches means a little more. That’s a really neat thing.”
