Three Marble Falls High School powerlifters ended their seasons by posting impressive finishes at the Division 2 State Meet March 21.
Brothers Daniel and David Dominguez each finished in the top 10 of their weight classes in the incredibly competitive meet.
And what excites head coach Karl “Beef” Bielfeldt the most?
“(All) are coming back,” he said.
Daniel Dominguez finished sixth in the 123-pound weight division thanks to a 440-pound squat, a 165-pound bench press, and 430-pound deadlift for a total of 1,035 pounds.
Bielfeldt noted that if Dominguez had earned a score on his final dead lift, he would have placed third.
David Dominguez was ninth in the 132-pound weight class by squatting 440 pounds, bench pressing 210 pounds, and dead lifting 475 pounds for a total of 1,125 pounds.
The goal for both is to get their upper bodies as strong as their lower bodies are, the coach said.
“Both had their best squats and deadlifts of the season,” he said.
Arnulfo Salazar didn’t get a score for one lift, which resulted in not getting a score for the meet.
“He saw some gains and gained some good experience,” Bielfeldt said. “He’ll be great next year.”
The coach views 2024 as a start for greatness that’s coming beginning in 2025. He pointed out the Mustangs learned more about the techniques, equipment and other parts of the sport during the season.
“We had some freshmen who did well,” he said. “They should be close to qualifying. I’m proud of the boys. They gained some experience, they understand a little bit better about what we want to do. They see the potential for us as a team.”
Burnet lifter Brandon Westbrook was 15th in the 375-pound weight class thanks to a 650-pound squat, a 405-pound bench press, and a 525-pound dead lift for a total of 1,580 pounds.
