The Burnet High School baseball team lost to Salado 2-1 March 20 and 13-9 March 18 in District 24-4A play.
In game one, the Eagles (9-5-1, 4-0) scored four runs in the top of the first inning only to have the Bulldogs (0-4) responded with two runs.
Burnet tied the contest 4-4 in the second inning.
But Salado plated seven runs in the fourth inning with six coming after two outs.
The Bulldogs scored a run in the bottom of the fourth inning with the Eagles plating one in the fifth inning. Burnet added two runs in the sixth and seventh innings to Salado’s one run in the seventh.
The Bulldogs left the bases loaded in the seventh inning.
Salado junior Trey Waters had 3 RBI, while senior Owen Curtis and junior Bernhard Amann each had 2, and sophomores Brayden Naegele and Aezea Martinez had 1 apiece.
“You have to be able to pitch a little bit better and be able to find ways to get out of jams,” Burnet head coach Russell Houston said.
In the second game, the Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. The Bulldogs tied it in the third inning and Salado scored the winning run in the fifth inning.
The Eagles, who have won six in a row, had 3 hits in seven innings.
Houston noted there were plenty of positives in the first game.
“Kids competed well and gave ourselves a chance to win a baseball game by scoring nine runs,” the coach said. “It’s just a humbling sport. When things are rolling, things are rolling really well. When things are going bad, they tend to go bad in a hurry. We’ve got to get right and stay positive and trust the process. I think that’s the place to start, of course, is to trust the process. We just have to be able to do that. We have to get the first one.”
Burnet travels to Lampasas Tuesday, March 25, before hosting the Badgers Friday, March 28. Both games start at 7 p.m.
