The Marble Falls High School boys soccer team shut out Bandera 4-0 March 14 to finish District 26-4A as the runner-up.
“It was really good, really good,” Mustangs head coach Ryan Craven said. “We possessed the ball well. We didn’t turn the ball over at all. At no point were we in jeopardy.”
Marco Almazan got the scoring going early, finding the back of the net 20 seconds into the match 1-0. He scored the only goal of the first half.
“We had the ball and had a lot of shots,” head coach Ryan Craven said.
Almazan found Esteban Dominguez on a short pass that Dominguez used for the second goal.
“He drilled it from the side, like a really awkward goal, really intense,” the coach said.
Alessandro Calderon assisted Aaron Luna on the next goal and Almazan finished the scoring.
Before the match, the program honored its 15 seniors and parents.
“I think we started out with a lot of energy,” Craven said. “And then it kind of dropped off after we scored so fast. I think we thought we were just going to just bury them. We had a long, nice dead halftime, and they came out fired up and really, there you go.”
The best part of the contest were the number of subs the coach made.
“Everybody got to play a good little chunk of time, so they all had fun, and it was a good win going into the playoffs,” he said. “They’re all good kids, and they care about the program, and they understand their roles, so it’s good that everybody got in and got to play. It was a good night.”
Marble Falls welcomes Austin Northeast east 7 p.m. Friday, March 20, to Mustangs Stadium for a bi-district championship to begin the Class 4A Division I playoffs.
