The Marble Falls High School girls soccer team crushed Little River Academy 4-0 Jan. 31.
The Lady Mustangs (7-4-1) led 1-0 at the half.
Freshman Jill Cole scored two goals, while freshman Fernanda Perez scored one thanks to an assist from junior Dulce Macias Garcia. Then Macias Garcia scored on an assist from Perez.
Head coach Marisa Miller was pleased with the win.
“(The Honey Bees) had a winning record,” she said. “We also were missing quite a bit of people. A lot of people were getting more playing time. We had new kids on the field”
Two starters were out, so Perez got the start.
“She’s new to the team this season,” Miller said. “She was a reserve up until this game. She got quite a bit of playing time. She’s really getting used to the varsity style and play.”
Because the team’s starting goalie also was out, junior Suzena Perez Angel went to that position. Perez Angel, who had four saves, is a big offensive contributor to the Lady Mustangs. She showed she and the defense were equally effective together defending the net in helping the team win its fourth contest in the last five matches.
Perez Angel’s role as the second goalie was by chance.
“We were practicing, and she got in the goal,” Miller said. “We said, ‘There’s are backup.'”
Marble Falls has a bye Tuesday, Feb. 4, and will travel to play at Wimberley Friday, Feb. 7, with the junior varsity playing at 5 p.m. and the varsity to follow.
