Marble Falls girls basketball loses to Salado

The Marble Falls High School girls basketball team lost to Salado 45-19 Jan. 10.
“We got the shots we wanted,” Lady Mustangs head coach Adley Canales said. “We’re struggling making them. We didn’t play at our level. We missed some girls who were wide open.”
He noted two factors contributed to the outcome: turnovers and rebounding.
The Lady Mustangs (7-19, 0-3) committed more turnovers than what they’ve been averaging and were out rebounded for the first time this season. Because they didn’t see their teammates, who were open, passes were forced. That allowed the Lady Eagles to do what they wanted on the offensive end.
“We turned the ball over more than we have been,” Canales said. “It’s a bad combination.”
The Lady Eagles took the lead early and played consistently well throughout the contest, which is a what veteran head coach Diane Konarik’s program is known for.
“They’re a well-coached team,” Canales said. “They’re not going to beat themselves. Against a disciplined team, you have to be patient. We tried to force the ball. They have no problem waiting. That’s what beat us.”
Jarrell (22-5, 3-0) beat Lampasas (10-14, 2-1) 53-39, while Burnet (11-14, 2-1) defeated Taylor (8-16, 0-3) 52-37.
Marble Falls welcomes Taylor Tuesday, Jan. 14, with the junior varsity playing at 5 p.m., the varsity at 6:30 p.m. and the freshmen at 8 p.m.
Marble Falls and Taylor are battling for a playoff spot as the first round of district play ends this week.
“Tuesday’s game is huge,” Canales said. “Taylor is extremely athletic. They’ll try to speed you up. They’re athletic, and they’ll try to use that to their advantage.”
