Final minutes decide outcome for Faith Academy, Lampasas boys basketball
The Faith Academy of Marble Falls boys basketball team lost to Lampasas 59-50 Dec. 17.
“Kudos to them for making adjustments at halftime,” Faith head coach Zakk Revelle said. “You could argue our adjustments were too little too late.”
The Flames led 24-16 at the half, but the Badgers dropped in 43 points in the second half.
Lampasas leaned on junior center Beau Patterson, who stands 6 feet and 10 inches and weighs 255 pounds, and outside shooting. Revelle said the battle between Patterson and Faith Academy junior center Judah Phillips, who also stands 6-10, was a good one.
Patterson finished with 17 points.
“They did a really good job of finding guys,” Revelle said. “Their big guy played well. Those two big guys went head to head. (Patterson) made more shots than we wanted him to. They shot the ball well from the inside.”
Faith Academy guard Will Slyker led all with 35 points.
One area Faith coaches want to see improve is the Flames’ play to begin the second half.
“We’ve really struggled this year — and we need to figure it out — in the third quarter,” Revelle said. “We were down by 1 going into the fourth quarter. We have to find a way in the second half to continue to execute the game plan. In the second half, we gave up open looks.”
Overall, the Flames got what they wanted from this game, the coach said.
“We wish them the best of luck,” he said. “This was a good way to start the week.”
Faith is hosting its own tournament Friday and Saturday, Dec. 20-21. The Flames begin with an 11 a.m. contest against Austin Regents and at 1:30 p.m. against New Braunfels Christian, both on Friday, and end with a 12:30 p.m. game against Austin Brentwood Christian at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
Regents beat Faith 56-53 Dec. 10.
“We’re playing three really good teams,” Revell said. “This might be the hardest week of the season (because of) the quality of teams in a row. There are no gimmes. If we want to win, hopefully we’ll find a way.”
