The Faith Academy of Marble Falls girls basketball team has its full squad now that the volleyball players have switched courts.

Harvey Vaughn, who is in his first year as the head coach, noted the team has played two games with very few practices together. He is mixing his five freshmen and two sophomores, who have been playing since the semester began, with veteran upperclassmen.

“And we had 20 minutes of walk-through with a press break,” he said of the first practice.

Getting game experience was the primary reason why he refused to allow a running clock against Austin Hyde Park Nov. 22 in a 73-20 loss.

“They have to learn things through experience,” he said. “Hyde Park is really good. It was a physical game.”

Vaughn is installing a brand new playbook complete with different inbound plays. He also wants a faster pace that starts with playing lockdown defense then getting quick buckets in transition. But to get there requires something that pace lacks – patience.

“It’s going to take a little while,” Vaughn said. “Once they start figuring it out, we’ll be better. I have no doubt we’ll be really getting the chemistry and the smoothness (in the coming games). At this point, I’m almost not worried about the score. I want improvement in every game. I think the girls are competing. They understand this is how we get better.”

The Lady Flames will enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday then play at St. Andrew Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 6:15 p.m.
