Four matches remain in the regular season and the Burnet High School volleyball team is firmly in third place in the District 24-4A standings.

The Lady Dawgs (17-15, 5-3) welcome Lampasas (11-25, 0-8) to The Doghouse at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, before heading to Salado (31-6, 8-0) Friday, Oct. 18.

While Burnet is in third place, the Lady Dawgs are looking to move up in the standings. Standing in the way are the Salado Lady Eagles and the Georgetown Gateway Lady Gators (23-4, 6-1).

The Lady Eagles, ranked No. 6 in the latest Class 4A poll of the Texas Girls Coaches Association, are the district’s only undefeated team. But they are at Georgetown Gateway, ranked No. 8 in the same poll, for a 6 p.m. match Tuesday, Oct. 15. If the Lady Gators win, the two teams will split the season series. If the two finish with identical district records, they will be co-district champions.

But Burnet finishes the regular season at Gateway Oct. 29.

Before that, the Lady Dawgs travel to Taylor Friday, Oct. 18, and welcome Jarrell Oct. 22.

Jarrell is currently tied for fourth place in the district standings with Marble Falls. But the Lady Mustangs beat the Lady Cougars in Jarrell Oct. 4. Therefore, Marble Falls currently has the first tiebreaker, which is the head-to-head result.

The reason Burnet is in third place is because of its season sweep of Marble Falls Oct. 3 where the Lady Dawgs quickly took care of business 25-15, 25-13, 25-10. The subvarsities also won their matches against the Lady Mustangs.

Burnet then faced Salado Oct. 11. The Lady Eagles won 25-18, 25-20, 25-19.

“Varsity battled a very tall and talented Salado team,” head coach Crystal Shipley said. “Our Lady Dawgs fought for every point and did everything they could but were unable to come out on top. We coaches are extremely proud of how hard these girls are working. The way they got after Salado was impressive. They never gave up.”
