The Burnet High School football team will welcome San Angelo Lake View at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, to Bulldog Field for the homecoming game.
“We have to tune out all the distractions and stay focused and get better to prepare for district,” head coach Ben Speer said.
The Chiefs’ (1-4) only win was against Lamesa 55-42 Sept. 13. The losses are to Levelland 44-26, Lubbock High 31-13, Snyder 40-34, and Fort Stockton 30-27.
“They’re a team trying to find themselves,” Speer said. “Their starting quarterback got hurt in the Fort Stockton game.”
Lake View is led by sophomore quarterback Chris Alvizo, who has completed 65 of 105 passes for 1,026 yards, 14 touchdowns and four interceptions and has 46 carries for 188 yards and two scores. He has hit 10 different Chiefs this season.
Senior Sammy Ramirez has 43 rushes for 227 yards and three touchdowns. Junior receiver Braylon White has 23 receptions for 396 yards and five touchdowns. Senior Francisco Ramirez has 27 catches for 372 yards and two scores.
“They run a spread offense that’s a fit to us, being a 3-4 (defensive front),” Speer said.
Francisco Ramirez leads Lake View in tackles with 27 followed by junior Isaac Monreal and junior Abram Rivera with 26 and 25, respectively.
Burnet will counter with seniors Khris Kassner, Lew Laidler, Rhett Murray, Marcus Pimentel and Colt Stanford and junior Riley Howell.
“It’ll be a long trip for them,” Speer said. “They have to come here.”
He indicated the Bulldogs have added a few wrinkles here and there they may show since this is the final game before the start of District 4-4A. Burnet travels to Marble Falls in the district opener Friday, Oct. 11.
“It’s a good week to put those into play and rep those,” he said.
