Burnet volleyball begins district play

The Burnet High School volleyball team is 1-1 after two District 24-4A matches.

The Lady Dawgs (13-13) lost to Salado 10-25, 26-28, 14-25 Sept. 17 after beating Marble Falls 25-8, 25-7, 25-8 Sept. 13.

Head coach Crystal Shipley credits the pre-district schedule for helping the Lady Dawgs prepare for what looks to be a very challenging district campaign.

“We have played a very tough preseason schedule, along with tournaments with high level competition,” she said. “I know that the preseason will only prepare us for the tough district we are in.”

When the University Interscholastic League announced realignment in February, it put three district champions and a runner-up in 2023 in District 24-4A. The district champions are Georgetown Gateway, Salado and Taylor and Burnet is the district runner-up.

The Lady Dawgs travel to Lampasas Friday, Sept. 20, with the varsity playing at 4:30 p.m. and the freshmen and junior varsity to follow.
