The Burnet High School football team lost to Georgetown East View 51-0 Sept. 6.

“They’re a very good team, a very talented team,” Bulldogs head coach Ben Speer said. “They’re probably the best team we’ll see until Stephenville. They have some Division I commits.”

On the third play of the game, the Bulldogs (0-2) fumbled. East View scored on the next play. In the second quarter the Patriots (1-1) led 18-0.

Another penalty on another drive put the Bulldogs “behind the chains,” Speer said.

“(The Patriots) are good. I don’t want to take anything away from them,” he said. “We definitely didn’t execute the way we needed to and shorten the game and put us in a better situation.

East View had 386 total yards of offense thanks to 223 passing yards and 163 rushing yards. Burnet had 244 total yards of offense with 119 rushing yards and 125 passing yards.

Patriots senior quarterback Ty Blair completed 15 of 23 passes for 219 yards and three touchdowns. Senior receiver Luke Martin caught seven passes for 61 yards.

Burnet senior quarterback Rhett Murray completed 11 of 27 passes for 121 yards with an interception. Junior running back Josiah Coronado had 13 rushes for 56 yards. Senior receiver Marcus Pimentel had four receptions for 59 yards.

Speer applauded his players’ efforts.

“They were still fighting in the second half,” he said. “Guys who don’t normally play, we gave them opportunities they haven’t had.”

The Bulldogs have many first-year varsity players, who are still adjusting and learning the speed of this level, the coach said.

“We’re … trying to balance out who goes where,” he said. “We’re replacing a lot of guys in big spots. We’re going to get it going. We’re still getting prepared and getting ready for district. We’re getting grown up and matured. We have self-inflicted wounds.”

The Bulldogs will play at Little River Academy (0-2)at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13.
