The Faith Academy volleyball team continues its run through its predistrict schedule.
The Lady Flames (7-6-4) lost to the Texas School for the Deaf 24-26, 25-20, 25-19, 17-25, 8-15 Aug. 27 after they competed in their own tournament where they went 1-1-2.
Head coach Erin Sawyer noted the academy had its annual retreat before the players boarded a bus to go to Austin for their Aug. 27 match.
“We tried to do it,” she said.
At its tournament, Faith beat Austin Founders Classical Academy 25-9, 25-18, lost to The Christian School at Castle Hills 21-25, 18-25 and tied Providence Prep 25-22, 25-27 and Austin Savio at its tournament Aug. 19-21.
“It’s been a long couple of weeks,” Sawyer said, pointing out the loss to Castle Hills “could have easily gone a different way.”
“We played four matches and each team we played, we played to two sets,” she said.
The Lady Flames are adjusting to senior Abbye Blackington’s absence from the line-up. Freshman Olivia Kraenzel has taken over that spot while senior Hadley Shipley is in the other spot.
“(Kraenzel) stepped in nicely,” Sawyer said. “I’m excited about our team camaraderie and how well they play together and gel together. We’re playing well. They are doing the things I’m asking them to do. We’re working together and making less mistakes.”
The Lady Flames welcome Austin Royals at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, to The Fire Pit.
