Come meet the Marble Falls Middle School coaches

The Marble Falls Middle School coaches are hosting a Meet, Greet and Eat gathering at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16.

The event will have free hot dogs, chips and water at the middle school cafeteria. At 6:30 p.m., a parent meeting will begin.

The middle school has two new athletic coordinators this year. Richard Scales, who was on the high school staff the last couple of years, is now the boys athletic coordinator, while Randi Humphries is the girls athletic coordinator.

Scales said one important goal for the coordinators is highlighting the accomplishments of the middle school athletes. The department created social media pages to do just that.

And keeping solid communication lines open between the staff and families also is important to them, he added.

“(Humphries) came up with the idea of wanting to do a meet and greet and co-hosting it for people,” Scales said. “We want families to meet the new staff and parents to put a face with the names.”

The two will outline all that comes with being a middle school athlete including practice times and how practices are conducted, how coaches prepare teams to compete, and other parts of the day-to-day running of the program that aren’t obvious to fans.

“We’ll go over sports, we’ll go over the sports that will happen this semester,” Scales said. “How the sports and athletics will be ran.”

Parents can meet coaches of specific sports teams and “who to call with concerns and how to properly go about doing that. And if you miss a practice, how that affects playing time,” he added.

Scales said middle school athletics has a specific purpose, one that’s vitally important that leads to sustained success for years to come.

“We want parents to understand the whole point of middle school is to develop,” Scales said. “Yes winning is the goal but also player development. Our goal is to develop our kids in the system so when they’re freshmen, they’re prepared with foundation and fundamentals within their sports.”

He emphasized families shouldn’t wait to get paperwork completed and turned in. That way, there’s no waiting on participation.

“(Athletes) can participate in athletics immediately,” he said. “It’s the necessary documents you do every year.”
