Burnet football staff has new coordinators, line coaches

The Burnet High School football staff is nearing completion.
Head coach Ben Speer announced that Zane Hicks is now the head offensive line and tight end coach and the powerlifting head coach after being the assistant coach under Tyler McIntosh.
“The kids know him and have good relationships with him,” Speer said.
Jordan Heusinkveld is the defensive coordinator after being on the Crowley staff. As word spread he was joining the Burnet staff, coaches around the state contacted Speer to congratulate him on making a great hire.
“We’re excited to have him,” Speer said. “It’s a great fit. One thing I look for is somebody who can bring energy and excitement. Sometimes it’s hard to bring that to defense. Everyone wants to bring offense and stats and scores. We have to have an excitement and energy and passion to play on that side of the ball.”
Speer noted that Heusinkveld is bringing “some analytical stuff.”
“I’m excited about that,” the head coach said. “I’m going to continue to call plays one more year, so he’s going to help me with preparation and doing work on weekends and game planning. I want to limit the changes going on here. I don’t want to change too many things up for the kids. He’s excited. He’s a kid magnet. They’re excited. They like being around him.”
Shane Carbee is the new special teams coordinator and defensive line coach.
“I’ve been trying to get coach Carbee for the last two years,” Speer said.
Speer had already announced Roman Arguellas as the assistant offensive line coach.
The program is still trying to hire a middle school coach.
