Marble Falls athletics host Summer Forge ’24
The Marble Falls Independent School District athletic department is hosting Summer Forge ’24, its annual strength, speed, agility and conditioning program.
The seven-week program, which is at Marble Falls High School, is for every athlete entering the seventh through the 12th grade.
“This gives all of our middle school and high school athletes a chance to continue the progress and development they have made in the spring,” athletic director Keri Timmerman said. “This will be a great time to continue to improve strength, speed (and) performance and working to create a unity in our programs and teams.”
The dates are Monday-Friday, June 3-28, and Monday-Thursday, July 8-25.
Rising seventh- and eighth-graders workout from 7-8:30 a.m. and high school students go from 8-10 a.m.
There is no cost to participate.
“The kids get to be around each other,” Timmerman said. “They build new relationships with me and coaches. If you want to see something change and be different, the kids are always going to be the difference.”
New athletic performance coordinator and defensive line coach Karl “Beef” Bielfeldt, whose hire was announced in late April, will be on hand for the sessions.
“The goal is to have him as available as possible,” Timmerman said. “We want to create dynamics and improve our strength-and-conditioning program.”
As part of the sessions, athletes have up to 90 minutes to work on sport-specific drills. Part of the reason why the University Interscholastic League approved this feature is so athletes don’t have to hire personal trainers.
“It gives us a chance to work and limit how they work,” Timmerman said.
He noted that after two weeks of not working out, athletes lose all the positive gains they’ve worked hard to obtain during the last several months.
“If we want to compete at a high level, you don’t take time off,” he said. “Football is an intense sport. If you want to be competitive, you can’t show up in the fall with a great attitude. It doesn’t get you there. If you take two months off, you’re back to square one. Let’s keep the energy around the program going.”
