The Marble Falls Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the hires of head coaches and assistants during its meeting May 20.
The new head coaches are
- girls soccer coach Marisa Miller of Katy Tompkins and Fulshear high schools.
- volleyball coach Christopher Pace, who spent the last three years at the University of Maine in Presque Isle as an assistant volleyball coach
- running coach Brenda Gonzalez, who was on the Marble Falls ISD staff as a middle school coach in 2015 and resigned and will now become the cross country and girls track coach
- football and boys soccer assistant coach Ryan Craven, who has been a teacher and coach in the Marble Falls ISD school district already, as the boys soccer head coach. Craven will continue as the defensive coordinator on athletic director and head football coach Keri Timmerman’s staff.
The school board also approved the hires of assistant coaches Lance Burns and Roy Gatlin.
Burns is the Mustangs’ passing game coordinator and receivers and basketball coach, while Gatlin is an assistant football and soccer coach.
Timmerman said the two coaches’ goals align with what the athletic department is about.
“These are guys who add value to our staff and kids,” he said.
Burns comes from Magnolia West High School.
“They’re trying to get to a small town,” Timmerman said. “He’ll help organize and game plan for passing.”
Which position Gatlin will coach is still being talked about. His wife already works for Marble Falls ISD, so Timmerman was happy to be able to offer the coach a position here.
“It’s always going to be good for all parties,” he said. “(Which position he’ll coach) is one of the things we’re looking at. We’re trying to find the best fit for our staff and our counselors.”
