The Marble Falls High School football team competed in the Burnet 7-on-7 league May 6.
The Mustangs faced Llano and Burnet in back-to-back contests. All three teams played each other for the first time in May.
New head coach Keri Timmerman applauded the Mustangs’ efforts on both sides of the ball.
“They were running an offense that was rules based,” he said of the Mustangs during the last several years. “They’re adjusting and ready to work. We have to learn.”
Rising junior Doak Timmerman, the coach’s son, and rising senior Colton Minor split time at quarterback.
“He and Colton are doing a good job,” the elder Timmerman said. “We still have kids in the wrong spots. Chemistry is a huge thing to build. Really we haven’t been running (the new offense) that long. We’ve only been working on it since mid April. We want to make sure they feel encouraged. It takes time.”
The coach was happy with the Mustangs’ defense, which forced opponents to adjust their offenses in order to move the ball. Rising senior Brandon Guevara caught an interception.
“They did a good job,” he said. “We’re trying to play football. We want to be good and stop the ball.”
Overall, Timmerman indicated the first night of play aided his players as they’re still getting comfortable with the offense.
“Three weeks of this will help us,” he said. “It’s a lot of learning. We have to get our kids in the right spots.”
The three teams continue play at 5 p.m. Monday, May 13, at Bulldog Field.
