The Burnet High School boys and girls track and field programs swept all four divisions of the District 24-4A Championships April 2 and 4.

“I apologize in advance for the lengthy email, but when your athletes sweep the district at a track meet, there is much to share and a lot of people to brag on,” Lady Dawgs head coach Crystal Shipley said.

She pointed out that boys head track coach Ben Speer summed up the meet perfectly.

“The standout moment of the meet undoubtedly was all four Burnet track divisions winning the district title,” she continued. “We truly have amazing kids. They practice at all hours of the day (at 6 a.m., during athletic periods, after school, and they run on their own on weekends).”

The top four in each varsity event advance to the District 23 and 24-4A area meet, which is Wednesday, April 10, at Lago Vista High School.

Shipley and Speer noted that these accomplishments are shared with another group.

“Behind those athletes are these amazing coaches,” Shipley said. “Each of them sacrifice so much to accommodate all of our athletes, especially the ones juggling many sports and other extracurricular activities. We couldn’t ask for a more dedicated team of kids and coaches.”

They are hurdles and high jump coach Colton Brewer, middle distance, long jump and triple jump coach Trevor Couch, distance coach Kristi Jones, pole vault coach Cory Kuhn, high jump, girls relays and throwing coach Doug Messer, and throwing coach Lisa Skupin.
