Marble Falls tennis begins district tourney

The Charlie and Nancy Herrington Tennis Center at Marble Falls High School serves as the host of the District 24-4A tournament Tuesday and Wednesday, March 26-27.
The first round begins at 9 a.m. March 26.
Marble Falls sophomore Cooper Womack, who is the defending district champion in boys singles, is seeded No. 1. Teammate Weston York also is competing.
Collin Schilling and Riley Stence will play in boys doubles as the No. 3 seed, while Chloe Brown and Amaris Mitchell will compete in girls doubles. Nevaeh Nelson and Glen Banton will compete in mixed doubles.
Mia Hernandez and Sophia Trudeau will play girls singles.
Eight players will compete in boys and girls singles, while eight teams will compete in boys doubles and mixed doubles. Six teams will play in girls doubles.
The time play begins Wednesday will be announced later.
“We want the varsity district tournament to be competitive,” Marble Falls head coach Samuel Whitley said. “We have 15 or 16 players on each (district) team.”
Marble Falls is entering the district tournament after playing well at the Taylor Tournament March 21. Womack is the boys singles champion, while Schilling and Stence finished third in boys doubles, and Trudeau is the consolation tournament champion.
“Sophia lost her first match in a tiebreaker to a girl who ended up winning third place,” Whitley said. “She is playing some of her best tennis.”
