The Marble Falls High School girls soccer team earned an important 10-0 win against Austin Achieve Feb. 27 in District 25-4A play.
The Lady Mustangs (9-7, 6-2) took a 6-0 lead at the intermission.
Haley France led the way with 4 goals and an assist. Ashley Ferreira added 3 goals and an assist. Miley Bolanos scored a goal and had 2 assists. Avrie Wallace scored a goal and had an assist. Madison Hardaway scored a goal.
Kali Brydon had 2 assists, while Suzena Perez had 1.
“For me, the offense is solid, we dominated that. On my team, we don’t rely on one person – we’re all competitive. Everyone is a weapon,” head coach Abigail Blunt said. “We came out strong tonight, which was really nice. We worked on getting the ball and finding the easy pass. We worked a lot on winning the ball.”
Going into the match, she repeated the same mantra over and over, the same one the Lady Mustangs have heard since their 2-1 loss to Georgetown Gateway a week earlier.
“Get the job done,” she said. “Do your job. We were coming off a rocky loss. We’ve been resetting and redoing.”
Part of that was going back to the basics, a commitment the players displayed against Achieve. They showed that during the 80-minute match, Blunt said.
Part of the reset, she added, was helping the Lady Mustangs with their mental approach.
“Calm down and slow down,” she said.
Blunt was equally pleased with the shutout, crediting the team for committing to keeping the Polar Bears off the scoreboard.
“It felt great, it felt phenomenal,” she said. “They really only have one weapon, and we kept an eye on her. We put balls in the back of the net and kept them from scoring. That zero is more important.”
Marble Falls travels to play at Florence at 5:30 p.m. Friday, March 1.
