Burnet powerlifting announces regional qualifiers, finishes at San Saba meet

The Burnet High School powerlifting team has several Lady Dawgs headed to the Region 2, Division 2 meet, which is March 1 at Dublin High School. The top 12 in each weight class qualified.

They are Hailee Beltran, Maddy Cardenas, Gracie Farmer, Amberlyn Glasscock, Alexis Leatherwood, Halle Maxwell, Maddi Moise, Lily Rygaard, Abby Smith, Josie Teague, Kasey Watson and Kimberly Watson. Alternates are Carleigh Imrie and Kamilya Nobles.

The rankings came after Burnet competed at the San Saba Armadillo Invitational Feb. 15. The Bulldogs placed third in the teams standings, while the Lady Dawgs won the girls division.

Pacing the Bulldogs were Luke Hudgins, Brady Rygaard and Jack VanAartsen, who each earned gold medals in their respective weight classes.

Rygaard and VanAartsen also took home the top lifter awards for the Light and Heavy platforms.

Alexis Leatherwood and Maddy Cardenas both won their weight classes to lead the Lady Dawgs, and the team had multiple lifters place in the top five of their weight classes

“Coach (Zane) Hicks and myself are extremely proud of how our athletes competed and look forward to seeing them improve over the next few weeks,” head coach Tyler McIntosh said.

The boys team will have one more week to qualify for the Region 2, Division 2 meet, which is March 9 at Gatesville High School.
