The Marble Falls High School softball team lost to Round Rock McNeil 13-3 Feb. 13 in the season opener.
The Lady Mavericks scored three runs thanks to walks. Head coach Alex Lozoya called it “a shaky start.”
But the Lady Mustangs plated two runs and found themselves in a 4-2 deficit going into the bottom of the fourth inning.
Then the error bug made an appearance, Lozoya said.
“Defensively, the girls were in a position to make a play but just didn’t execute well enough to get the outs,” he said.
The Lady Mavericks had runners on base and their singles resulted in a big inning.
“Big picture,” Lozoya said,”the girls showed lots of improvement from where they were a year ago. The score doesn’t reflect the competitiveness the team showed with solid defensive plays sprinkled throughout the game except for the one inning that it got away from us. But ultimately the score is what matters.”
Senior Aydan Ortis had a double and a single with a run scored and an RBI to lead Marble Falls, while junior Sophia Biagini had a run and a walk.
Marble Falls is playing in the Ingram Tom Moore Invitational Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 15-17.
