The Faith Academy of Marble Falls boys basketball team crushed Temple Central Texas Christian 72-38 Jan. 30.
The victory (22-8, 8-0 District 3-3A of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools) secured a playoff spot for the Flames that continues a streak that covers a decade.
Before tipoff, the Flames honored seniors Micah Anderson, Gabe Lopez, Cross Sanchez and Ben Tatum. As a special reward the seniors started.
“The gym went nuts when they heard Micah’s name,” Revelle said, noting Anderson is the ideal teammate, who does his job daily and accepts that he has limited minutes during games.
The night was especially meaningful for Revelle who is in his seventh season at Faith Academy. He remembers watching these players as elementary students who are now on the verge of closing this chapter at the academy.
“It’s been neat to watch them grow up,” he said. “We asked them what is their favorite memory. They all involved something for the team.”
As for the game itself, Faith secured the win quickly, putting any doubt of its outcome out of reach. Freshman guard Will Slyker led with 34 points. Revelle said the score illustrates the maturity of his squad.
“I was really happy with their focus and attention to detail,” he said.
Faith travels to play Waco Reicher Saturday, Feb. 3, with the girls varsity at noon and the boys varsity at 1:30 p.m. It’s the first of four consecutive road trips. The goal is to win out and capture the district title without sharing it.
“They’re all seeding games,” he said, pointing out the Flames face the top teams in the district. “This is two years in a row we’ve won more than 20 games. We’re still focused in on that, and they’re working.”
