Marble Falls High School freshman swimmer Kealin Alford finished third in the 100-meter breaststroke at the District 13-4A meet Jan. 19 in 1 minute and 26.96 seconds.

That time qualified her for the Class 4A Region IV meet Feb. 2-3 at the Southwest Independent School District Aquatic Center, 9290 SW Loop 410 in San Antonio.

Head coach Jamie Graham said Alford’s success is simple to explain.

“She shows up and puts in the work,” he said.

He noted getting to regionals isn’t easy because of the number of district teams and the number of swimmers on each roster. The district includes Belton New Tech, Bosqueville, Burnet, Evant, Fredericksburg, Georgetown Gateway, Salado and Waco Robinson.

Alford trains at Nitro and swims for Nitro, which has swim centers in Cedar Park and Bee Cave. Many athletes in the area who swim year around chose to train at Nitro.

Graham said Alford wants other Marble Falls students to join the high school team, adding those who participate will see the benefits of competing.

“She really wants more kids to come out so we can have a relay,” he said. “She’s doing this basically by herself. She knows how to work. She’s just getting started.”
