Faith Academy boys basketball complete 4-game home stretch with a win

The Faith Academy of Marble Falls boys basketball team crushed Round Rock Christian 57-40 Jan. 23 in another District 3-3A contest of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools.
The Flames (6-0) completed a four-game home stretch with four consecutive victories.
“In district games that’s a big deal,” head coach Zakk Revelle said. “Four of our seven district teams are ranked in the top 7 (of the Class 3A TAPPS poll of the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches).”
While Revelle was happy to add another victory, he noted the Flames had to fight through a lot.
“The score doesn’t indicate how poorly we played,” he said. “I told you (Jan. 20 after the win against Waco Live Oak) I was already thinking about Round Rock. This was one of those games where, honestly, it felt more like a trap. Round Rock Christian is good. But they lost to the other three teams we beat (Waco Bishop Reicher, Bryan Brazos Christian and Live Oak), They played all those games on the road. You’re coaching high school boys who look up standings.”
Add in that three Faith starters were sitting on the bench with foul trouble in the fourth period, and the Flames showed what they were made of, Revelle said. A 12-0 run in the third period put the Flames up by 19 points, which was more than enough of a cushion.
Revelle commended sophomore guard Jase Marshall and senior guards Gabe Lopez and Cross Sanchez for making the most of their opportunities and keeping their own poise and helping teammates.
“We were fortunate to hit enough shots to win,” he said. “Everybody played cause we had to. We were able to win that game and win the way we did — it’s a good barometer of where we are as a program.”
But the coach emphasized the Flames exited The Fire Pit eager to return for the next matchup.
“We won this game by 17 and our guys are upset,” he said. “They didn’t think we played well. We want to get better every day. I think that’s a good sign going forward that they’re not satisfied. They want to win the right way and win when they play well. And it’s way better to learn this after a win.”
Though he is pleased with where his team is right now, he noted the task is still incomplete. The Flames travel to face Temple Holy Trinity Friday, Jan. 26, with the junior varsity playing at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 7:30 p.m.
“We’re 6-0 through the first half of district,” Revelle said.
