The Faith Academy of Marble Falls football team lost to Weatherford Christian 58-12 in a game that ended after two quarters Oct. 20.

The Flames (3-5, 1-1 Division II, District 3 of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools) now turn their attention to a road game at Round Rock Christian Academy for what may be the second playoff berth from the district. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27.

Defensive coordinator Jay Silvers summed up the loss to Weatherford Christian by pointing out four Faith Academy turnovers and missed tackles defensively.

“A lot of it was ourselves getting in the way,” he said. “Our guys didn’t have a ton of energy.”

He pointed out the contest didn’t start that way. Both teams scored touchdowns to have a 6-6 tie.

“When we did get going on offense, it was passing and catching the ball,” Silvers said. “(Senior) Cross Sanchez caught both touchdown passes.”

The Lions also had success with their air attack, the coordinator said.

“We couldn’t slow down their passing game,” he said. “And on our offense, we couldn’t get the ball moving. We missed blocks and fumbled. It was rough.”

Though it had been a year since the Flames didn’t play into the third quarter, Silvers noted the athletes played with effort.

“They learned not to give up,” he said. “Guys played hard, and they never gave up. They never threw in the towel.”
