Marble Falls Middle School football goes 2-1 against Burnet
The Marble Falls Middle School football teams went 2-1 against Burnet Oct. 12.
A combined B team of seventh- and eighth-graders defeated the Bulldogs 16-14.
“We ran the ball the majority of the game,” coach Michael McDowell said. “We made one more play than they did.”
Eighth-grader Cade Bresonio scored both touchdowns and both two-point runs. One touchdown came from about a 35 yards out.
The eighth-grade A team won 12-0.
McDowell said the Mustangs had a couple of drives that averaged 15 plays each that ended in touchdowns.
One touchdown came from Anderson Liscum on a quarterback sneak.
“Our A team quarterback was out sick,” the coach said. “He did a really good job of filling that role for us.”
But the Bulldogs refused to accept the outcome and committed to finishing drives with scores. McDowell credited the Marble Falls defense for protecting the shutout.
“We had some big stops in the end,” he said. “They battled the whole game. We knew it was going to go back and forth. They played hard, and that’s all you can ask.”
The seventh-grade A team lost 13-12.
“We were leading for the majority of the game,” McDowell said. “Burnet scored with 30 seconds left and kicked the extra point.”
Quarterback Gage Gobel scored on a one-yard quarterback sneak, while Diego Aguilar had a five-yard rushing touchdown.
Drew Widdle had several long runs to put the Mustangs in scoring position.
Travis Lutz was named the defensive Most Valuable Player.
“It was a pretty good game,” McDowell said. “The kids played hard. They made one more play than we did.”
Marble Falls welcomes Taylor Thursday, Oct. 19, to Mustang Stadium on the high school campus. Game times are 5 p.m., 6:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
