The Burnet High School volleyball team earned wins against Lampasas and Lago Vista last week to remain within striking distance of a share of the District 24-4A title.
The Lady Dawgs (23-11, 6-1) beat the Lady Badgers 25-14, 25-9, 25-11 Oct. 13 and the Lady Vikings 25-16, 25-27, 25-17, 25-9 Oct. 10.
Burnet hosted its Pink Out night Oct. 13 to raise awareness for breast cancer, honored officials and started its Little Miss Lady Dawg recognition. Teachers helped select the elementary students.
“Our varsity team wanted to make connections and instill the love of volleyball to our elementary students,” head coach Crystal Shipley said. “Second- and third-grade students were selected for their outstanding academics, effort, attendance, character and leadership. These are all traits that our Lady Dawgs value and strive to be great at daily. These girls were able to help in warm-up, be a part of line-up announcements, and take a tour of the locker rooms. It was a great first for our program and allowed our volleyball players to see they have a special impact on our ‘littles.'”
The subvarsities also won both of their matches against Lampasas and Lago Vista.
This is the final week of the regular season. Burnet travels down U.S. 281 south to play at Marble Falls Tuesday, Oct. 16, with the subvarsities taking the court at 5 p.m. and the varsity follows.
Then the Lady Dawgs welcome Georgetown Gateway at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20. If both Burnet and Gateway win Oct. 16, the Gators will look to beat Burnet at The Doghouse to win the district title outright and end the district season undefeated.
