The Burnet High School team tennis squad lost to Cameron Yoe 7-12 in a bi-district championship of the Class 4A team tennis playoffs Oct. 10 at Georgetown High School. It’s the third consecutive year the two squads have met in the playoffs.
The Bulldogs, which entered the playoffs as District 18-4A’s No. 3 team, had all their wins by the Lady Dawgs.
They won all three doubles matches in dominating fashion. The team of Alex Burns and Tatum Salinas won 6-0, 6-0. Robyn Massey and Aly Van Zandt also won 6-4, 6-1 as did the team of Samantha Burton and Emily Wagner 6-1, 6-3.
The Lady Dawgs continued their superior play in the singles matches. Salinas, who did not drop a single game in district play, and Van Zandt displayed the depth of her talents. They both won 6-0, 6-0. Wagner raced to a 6-1 first-set win in her match and then gutted out a 7-5 victory in the second set, while Burton won 8-6.
This was the final fall of team tennis for seniors Amelia Griffin, Devin Petterson, Connor Wadman, Burton, Salinas and Wagner. But the goal is to return in the spring for another deep run in the Class 4A playoffs.
