The Burnet High School volleyball team defeated Gatesville 25-23, 25-18, 25-20 Sept. 15 after falling to Salado 20-25, 22-25, 21-25 Sept. 12.
Head coach Crystal Shipley noted all three Burnet squads defeated Gatesville.
“Overall, this was a very successful week for all of our girls,” she said.
The Burnet subvarsities played in the championships of their own tournaments Sept. 15-16. The junior varsity lost to “a tough Liberty Hill group,” Shipley said.
“They battled until the end, but could not take the lead,” she said. “We are so proud of their second place finish.”

The freshmen battled Wimberley for the third time this season after each winning a match against the other. Wimberley won the tournament championship.
“This was a nail biter until the very end of three sets,” Shipley said. “Wimberley just made some tough plays at the end. We are extremely proud of this group as well.”
Burnet welcomes Brownwood to The Doghouse Tuesday, Sept. 19, with the subvarsities playing at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 6 p.m. The program is honoring teachers.
“Some … received personal invites from our players, but all are encouraged to come support our girls,” Shipley said.
It’s the final tune-up before the Lady Dawgs begin defense of their District 24-4A championship.
On Friday, Sept. 22, they welcome Lago Vista, which finished third in the district race in 2022 and advanced to the Class 4A Region III tournament. The varsities take the court at 4:30 p.m. and the subvarsities play at 5:30 p.m.
