Burnet’s Kade Shaw has ‘surreal’ day at the plate
Burnet High School senior Kade Shaw had a great day at the ballpark playing for the Austin Wings 17-and-under summer select baseball team.
On June 9, Shaw went hit three home runs in three plate appearances, and one was a grand slam. He did it against Up Top from Dallas during The Opener tournament.
As a result, Shaw was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Hitter.
“Three in one game is surreal,” he said.
Shaw plays different positions, including pitcher. He said he was thrilled to have that many home runs in a game.
“A strikeout is more common,” he said. “A home run doesn’t happen as often.”
The Wings played in four games during the three-day tournament.
Shaw had some very important reasons for wanting to play.
“Hone my craft, get recruited,” he said. “And get ready for baseball in Burnet.”
He was on the pitching staff during the spring season, helping the Bulldogs finish as the District 24-4A runners-up.
The Wings will play 60 games this summer with the season scheduled to end in late July.
“This is the best way you can grow as far as skill,” Shaw said. “My confidence — I’ve worked hard. That hard work has helped me gain confidence and make things happen. All glory to God.”
