Marble Falls High School senior Tea Rodriguez signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball for Southwestern University May 10.
The senior guard led the Lady Mustangs to the Class 4A regional quarterfinals last season. She averaged 11.5 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3 steals per game.
Rodriguez originally signed a National Letter of Intent to play at Murray State College during the early signing period in November. At that time, Steve Lowe was the head coach. But he resigned April 12 “to pursue other coaching opportunities.”
Therefore, Rodriguez requested release from her original NLI and got it, which allowed her to sign with Southwestern University.
“Southwestern recruited her originally,” Marble Falls head coach John Berkman said.
Once Rodriguez was granted her release, she had other programs contact her, Berkman added.
“We’re proud of her,” he said. “This signing is the result of hard work, countless hours with personal trainers and going to the gym.”
She played select basketball for Next Level and Austin Elite and her dad, Ronnie Rodriguez, spearheaded her recruitment by sending videos to countless programs.
The daughter of Rodriguez and Sheila Cremona will major in criminal justice to be a juvenile counselor.
