The Burnet Middle School golf program participated in the district tournament at Hancock Park Golf Course in Lampasas May 1.
The Bulldogs split their team into two squads.
The first boys team scored a 191 to finish second by three strokes and consisted of Dylan Courtney and Bowen Raiford, who each scored a 47, Wyatt Johnson, who shot a 48, Hays Bennett, who scored a 49, and Gavin Oakley, who scored a 54. Courtney, Johnson and Raiford shot new personal bests.
“They improved and recorded their best team score of the season by nine strokes,” coach Jeremy Miller said. “Our goal was to get to a team score near 190, and they exceeded expectations.”
The second team shot a 227 and improved its scores, too. That team consisted of Rylan Haberer, Preston Miller, Korben Ribera, Cruz Neenan and Peyton Villarreal. Neenan shot a 54, Ribera scored a 56, and Villarreal shot a 59 for new personal bests. Haberer shot a 58 and Miller scored a 63.
“(They) gained some great tournament experience and improved their scores from the last tournament we played at Lampasas in March,” Miller said.
In the girls division, Davis Boorman tied for first place by shooting a 50. That set a new personal best. A scorecard playoff meant Davis officially finished as the second-place medalist. Lydia Seavey shot a 66.
“We are proud of both her and Lydia’s hard work and dedication to getting better each day,” Miller said.
Burnet will play its final tournament May 8 at Hidden Falls Country Club in Meadowlakes.
