Marble Falls baseball crushes Georgetown Gateway to complete series sweep
The Marble Falls High School baseball team defeated Georgetown Gateway 13-1 April 6 in the third game of the series.
With the win, the Mustangs have their first District 24-4A sweep of an opponent.
“Good team win tonight,” head coach Tyler Porter said. “Solid on the mound, lock-down defense and the bats poured on some runs. They did a good job. They were a little out of their routine (because of the rain and wet field). But they did a really good job of focusing on getting another district win.”
Marble Falls seized control of the contest in the first inning by plating three runs and then adding four more in the second. Gateway scored its only run of the contest in the third inning, but the Mustangs answered with six runs in the fourth inning. The game ended after the Gators batted in the fifth inning.
“We stepped in there and got up pretty quick,” Porter said. “Then we had a little lull. So I told them ‘let’s step on their throats.'”
Isaias Roman had 3 RBIs and 3 hits, while Cale Cochran had 3 RBIs, and Jake Carter had 2 RBIs and 2 hits. Evan Nickowski had 3 hits.
“I feel like we’re clicking offensively,” Porter said.
Pitcher Cochran (4-0, 1 save) struck out three in three innings. Brady Elwartowski pitched two innings and struck out three.
“We were able to get Cale off the mound early,” the coach said. “He threw 50 pitches, which is good. Brady went in and looked good. He had one walk. Other than that, he was perfect. Brady threw two innings of no-hit baseball.”
The Mustangs welcome Lago Vista Tuesday, April 11, before traveling to face the Vikings Friday, April 14. Both games start at 7 p.m.
