The Marble Falls High School softball team run-ruled Lago Vista 22-2 in a contest that ended after four innings March 28.

This is the Lady Mustangs’ first win in District 24-4A, and it came on the road.

“That’s a very big deal,” head coach Alex Lozoya said. “They felt good about it. The girls had a good night. We got some kids back and that allowed us to move others to their natural positions. The kids just had a good night. They didn’t try to make something out of nothing.”

Sophomore Kylie Roberts led the way by going 2 for 2 from the plate — including a grand slam home run over center field that traveled 225 feet — and drew three walks. In all she had eight RBIs and was named the Marble Falls player of the contest.

“Kylie had bases loaded,” the coach said. “Kylie had a great warm-up. She was playful and competitive. Her actions rubbed off on others. People started to get into it.”

Freshman pitcher Marisol Ramos yielded two earned runs and struck out two.

“Marisol was confident,” Lozoya said. “When you’re throwing strikes and competing, what ever happens, happens.”

Before the contest, observers noted the Lady Mustangs showed joy on the field as they were warming up and getting ready to play.

“The kids were smiling and giggling,” Lozoya said. “They were relaxed. The girls felt good in practices.”

The next challenge, he said, is to find the consistency in their performances from one contest to practices to the next game.

“We have a young group that’s been trial by fire,” the coach said. “They want results and want them right away. It takes time. Everybody wants to be around the fire, but no one wants to be the spark. After we get it going, someone has to feed it.”

Marble Falls welcomes Burnet (4-0 District 24-4A leader) at 7 p.m. Friday, March 31, to Scearce Field. If the field is too wet to play, the Lady Mustangs to travel to play at Bulldog Diamonds where it had artificial turf throughout the stadium.

“I told the girls (after they finished the Lago Vista game) there’s no need to look ahead, let’s enjoy the night,” he said. “We’ll get after it and prepare for Friday. It felt really good. It was good to see them enjoy a district road win. We’ll take it one game at a time. We still have everything in front of us.”
