The Burnet High School girls soccer team clawed out an 8-0 win against Lago Vista March 3 to remain unbeaten in District 25-4A play.

“Your Lady Dawgs came out hard and played well,” head coach Kimberly Myhre said. “This puts us one game away from being district champions for the first time in school history.”

Brook Oliva and Amelia Griffin led with two goals each. Kaycie Banton, Caroline Valencia, Haylie Bartlett and Ari Chavez also all found the back of the net.

Oliva also had two assists. Banton, Chavez and Griffin each also had an assist as well as Julie Suazo and Lainey Rye.

And Myhre remains equally pleased with the Burnet defense thanks to Reagan Shipley, Kodi Opperman, Adriana Briggs, Emily Wagner, Mekayla Johnson, Mari Sanchez, Denise Penaloza and Haylie Bartlett.

“Our defense and goal keeper Juliet Morales kept another clean sheet in the back,” she said.

Burnet will have its final regular season home match against Georgetown Gateway Tuesday, March 7, at 5:30 p.m. at Bulldog Field. At 5 p.m., the program will honor its seniors.

“We win this, we are for sure district champs,” Myhre said.
