The Burnet and Marble Falls high school girls powerlifting teams competed at the Class 4A Region II Division I powerlifting meet March 3 where the Lady Mustangs were fourth in the team standings, and the Lady Dawgs finished fifth.
Three Lady Mustangs — Kenadi Dalton, Chloe Humphries and Sophia Trudeau — and two Lady Dawgs — Maddi Moise and Abby Smith — finished in the top two of their weight classes to advance to the Class 4A Division I state meet at 1 p.m. Friday, March 17, at the Comerica Center, at the corner of Dallas North Tolley and Gaylord Parkway in Frisco.
“We overcame some adversity early,” Marble Falls head coach Robert Draper said. “Some of the others stepped up and did well. This is obviously the best they’ve ever done (as a team at regionals). And this is the most I’ve ever taken to state. I’m excited about the opportunity to take three to state. Kenadi did well. She qualified for state as a freshman. I wasn’t expecting her to. Sophia qualified for state as a freshman. And Chloe, going into regionals, was going in as No. 1 in her weight class. It came down to a couple of girls fighting for second. They couldn’t catch her. Hats off to her for staying in front of them. They’re excited about it.”
“Our girls had an awesome day with six of our 10 qualifiers earning medals and team points,” Burnet head coach Tyler McIntosh said. “Abby gets to add regional champion to her impressive powerlifting resume. She won her class and clinched her third consecutive trip to state. Maddi Moise placed second and also qualified for the state competition. Coach Couch and (I) are extremely proud of how our girls competed and represented Burnet.”
